Understanding unit rate

Students compare grocery-store prices for different package sizes, calculate the unit rate for each, and decide which package is the better buy.

Students will be able to

  • Calculate a unit rate from a given ratio.
  • Use unit rate to compare two options and justify which is the better value.

  • Aligned to CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.RP.A.2 — Understand and use the concept of a unit rate associated with a ratio to solve real-world comparison problems.
